As the deadline for the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) approaches, momentum is building towards defining a new development agenda to build on the achievements registered by the MDGs and also address the continuing development challenges facing the world today.
Member states of UN have been engaging in various consultations at national, international and regional levels. The teams of people who represent the views of the different results from the various consultations with NGOs, youth, Government officials.
Members of parliament usually make up the teams that represent the state at the General Assembly. This makes it viable to have the Members of Parliament support on the inclusion of peace in the Post 2015 Development Agenda.
Although significant progress has been registered towards achieving the MDGs targets, one notable weakness of the goals is the absence of goals related to peace, security and conflict prevention.
Participants acknowledge the reinforcing link between peace, security and development whereby violence and conflict not only hinder development but are drivers of further insecurity and inequitable development.
